Melbourne backpacker hostel with private room accommodation

VanJam had an amazing time at the Habitat HQ in St Kilda. It has a beautiful set up with small stage and instruments to jam with. Free internet and bean bags to chill out in. For travellers it is a nice haven with out too many rules like other hostels. Habitat HQ has achieved great respect from the people staying there making it clean, friendly and relaxing. Keep up the good work and keep the jams going!

I had such a good time there. It's a good place if you are looking for a job as well as a short trip in Melbourne. There is a garden where you can chat with others with drinks. The staff are friendly. The big plus, the beach is less than 10 minutes walk from the hotel and pubs make the best brunch of Melbourne...Yummy !!!!

I wish that there was an equivalent to Habitat HQ in every city! It was like a hotel, but with all of the atmosphere of a hostel, secure, friendly - I could not fault any aspect of the place - which is a lot more than can say for some hostels I have stayed at! If anything I would like to have stayed longer.

Fleur Tonkin- Australia

A truly excellent and welcoming hostel! One of the friendliest and best I have ever been too! Thanks guys.

Great location and very helpful staff. Would definitely recommend it to anybody travelling to Melbourne and needs a place to stay.

Adrian Patton- Ireland

Best place I’ve stayed in all of New Zealand and Australia. They seem to do everything to make your life easier unlike most other hostels. Great communal area, really chilled out with good music all the time. Literally don’t have a bad thing to say about this place

Mhairi Mcintyre- Scotland

Great location - only a short walk to the beach and right next to the tram if you want to go into the city. Great atmosphere and very helpful staff. Highly recommended!

I stayed in a private room, so I'm not sure what the dorms were like! But the room was as smart as a 4 star hotel room. Lovely shared area downstairs and out on the patio. Anyone going to Melbourne should seriously consider staying here. St. Kilda is only a 15 min tram ride away from Melbourne.

Paul Quelch- England

This hostel may as well be a hotel! It is so clean and nice. We only stayed for 2 nights but I was thoroughly impressed

Alison McCarthy- USA

The best Hostel in along the Coast by far!! Nothing negative to report at all! AMAZING in a word!

Katie Hughes- Wales

cool hostel, very clean and good fun, really good set up for chiling out and meeting people.

Kristy Mullen- England

great hostel, plenty to do- enjoyed poker night, couple of guitars about to play with, just a tram ride into town, and the free city tour with the legendary Molly was a very good day!

Craig Ward- Wales

Best hostel I have stayed in, in Australia! Free Breakfast, free Internet, huge kitchen, always stuff to do, staff is really friendly, bathrooms are clean (dorms always depend on your dormmates... but pretty clean, too)... Also, nicely located, not far from the tram and the cool streets of St. Kilda and the Beach. Not for you if you like small and cozy, but else it's perfect.

Alessa Tschaftary- Germany

I had an execellent stay at HQ. Staff were extremely helpful. I will come again.

This hostel is only third best in Australia. I'd like to see what the top two were like. Would definitely stay there again

Very new hostel. Everything was really clean and felt really secure. Not in city center, but in beautiful St. Kilda and short train ride into town.

TRAVEL HQ testamonial Hi Camille,

I wanted to thank you for all your travel help and advice on what to do up the east coast at the end of November. We were both really impressed with how much you were able to help us and all the work you did calling around to get us the best rates. The Spaceship van was perfect and we had such a great time! You were amazing to help us plan based on the timeframe we were working with. We really appreciated you taking the time to help us out so we could have the best possible experience and were thankful for all your tips : ) Thanks so much! Amy
