General Conditions
  • Please note that we are an international youth hostel.

  • Check-in is available 24 x 7. However, please contact us via phone if you intend to check-in after 11pm to ensure we are ready to greet you on arrival.

  • Parking is available for a fee.

  • All dorm room guests must provide a passport or Australian drivers licence on arrival showing they are an interstate or overseas resident.

  • All private room guests must provide a passport or Australian drivers licence on arrival.

  • A deposit is required for all rooms and dorm beds in the form of a credit card pre-authorisation. The credit card must be in the name of the guest.  Alternatively, a $100 cash security bond may be accepted at the managers discretion.

  • Accommodation must be paid on arrival, not departure

  • Cancellations less than 24 hours and no shows will be charged for one night of accommodation per person.

  • Under 18's are not permitted to stay in the dorm rooms unless part of an approved group booking for a school/sporting group, all under 18's residing in private rooms must be accompanied by their parent or guardian.

  • Specials are not valid with any other offers.

  • Check in 2pm and check out 10am.

  • Room rates vary dynamically based on booking conditions, season and availability. Please check your reservation details and booking offer for rate details.

  • Booking extensions and changes will be made at the current advertised rates.

  • Please note that rates are subject to change

  • Guests must abide by the House Rules. The management reserves the right to immediately cancel and evict any guest that breaches the house rules. If this occurs, there will be no refund of any fees paid.

  • The management reserves the right to refuse or cancel any reservation at their discretion. In the event this occurs, any remaining credit will be returned to the guest. However, the hostel will not be liable for any additional fees or costs incurred by the guest including but not limited to; transport, alternative accommodation costs or bank and transaction fees.

  • We are a non-smoking venue. Any smoking within the building or rooms will incur a cleaning fee. Guests may also be liable for the cost or losses incurred whilst the room is closed for cleaning or ventilation. The guest will be liable for any fire brigade fees should the smoke alarm be triggered.

  • Additional terms and conditions may apply when booking via other websites or channels. Please refer to their terms and conditions when booking.

  • When there are multiple dorms beds booked on a single reservation, we will do our best to co-locate all guests in the same room. However, in some cases operational considerations and availability limitations may require us to locate guests in different rooms.

  • There is a maximum of 6 guests on a standard booking. Any bookings containing 7 or more guests are deemed a group booking and require Habitat HQ management approval. Group Booking Terms & Conditions apply. Please contact us via phone or email to enquire about a group booking.

  • Minimum night stays may apply during special events, peak periods or to promotional rates.

  • The terms and conditions are subject to change. Refer to www.habitathq.com.au/terms for the current terms and conditions.

  • If the guest intends to arrive after 1am on the first night of their stay, they must notify Habitat HQ via email prior to 1am.  If the guest does not notify Habitat HQ and is a no-show at 1am, the booking will be cancelled and all monies forfeited.

  • Habitat HQ is a specialty accommodation provider for international and interstate backpackers. All dorm room guests must be genuine travellers from interstate or overseas. If, in the opinion of Habitat HQ staff, the guest is not a genuine backpacker or not a person usually resident outside the state of Victoria and visiting for tourism purposes, Habitat HQ has the right to cancel the reservation and refund any pre-paid deposit received by the property. There will be no further compensation. People visiting Melbourne for other purposes (such as professional, medical or major events) are welcome to book into private rooms.



Flexible Bookings

The following conditions apply to flexible rate options:

  • Bookings can be cancelled at no cost up to 24 hours prior to the scheduled check in day. For example, if you are due to check-in on January 15, then you could cancel prior to  23:59 on January 13.

  • No-shows or cancellations within 24 hours of the check-in day are charged one night for each room, dorm bed and/or additional guest on the reservation.

  • Refunds are not available after check-in if a guest chooses to shorten their stay. A guest who chooses to reduce their length of stay must provide at least 24 hours notice. Any remaining credit can only be applied to a future booking within 12 months at booking rates applicable to the new period of stay. Credits are held for up to 12 months at which time they are forfeited.

  • Bookings are not confirmed until a valid credit card is provided.

Non-Refundable Bookings

The following conditions apply to non-refundable rate options:

  • The total cost of the booking must be paid at the time of reservation.

  • The reservation is non-flexible. The booking cannot be rescheduled to alternate dates.

  • There is no refund or credit note in the event a guest chooses to cancel their booking or is a no-show.

Package cancellation policy


  • Cancellation of any package within 72 hours to 14 days prior to arrival will result in a 25% cancellation fee of the package cost.

  • Cancellation within 48 hours to 72 hours prior to arrival will result in a 50% cancellation fee of the package cost.

  • Cancellation or transfer within 48 hours prior to arrival will result in a 100% cancellation fee of the package cost.



The following conditions apply to group bookings.

Group Bookings Terms & Conditions

  • A 25% non-refundable deposit is due at time of booking

  • The balance is due at least one month prior to arrival

  • All children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult

  • The group agrees to adhere to Habitat HQ’s House Rules


Group Cancellation Policy

  • 31+ days prior to arrival will result in 25% cancellation fee

  • 21 – 30 days prior to arrival will result in 50% cancellation fee

  • 15 – 21 days prior to arrival will result in 75% cancellation fee

  • 0 – 14 days prior to arrival will result in 100% cancellation fee

*If the booking has been re-scheduled, then 'arrival' means the check-in date of the original booking (prior to being re-scheduled).


Changes to Bookings

Changes to numbers (no greather than 20%) can be made to the booking up to 15 days prior to arrival without a fee or penalty. Changes to numbers made 14 days or less prior to arrival where the number is decreased will not be refunded.
